In South Dakota, individuals on probation and parole are required by the state to take Moral Reconation Therapy. One obstacle, however, often prevents them from attending – distance. Many clients served by Lutheran Social Services of South Dakota (LSS SD) do not have a car or money to make the drive. Additionally, the time commitment is very challenging for clients as they also work to meet another critical requirement of parole – maintaining employment. LSS SD started the first online group therapy session to overcome this simple barrier. This new online therapy in South Dakota was reviewed and has a quality assurance of 96% compared to in-person group therapy. The telehealth group is a cost-effective, practical way to allow clients access to the resources they require to take the next step in their lives.
