Traci Hearne joined Lutheran Family Services of the Rocky Mountains as a respite child care provider in 2011 and under her leadership, the KPC Respite Center opened as a new program in March 2014. Since that time, the center has been able to serve over three times the number of children and families on a monthly basis while quadrupling the number of respite care hours provided to families.
The KPC Respite Center offers no-cost, scheduled and emergency, respite child care for parents of young children in the Colorado Springs metro area with the ultimate goal of reducing child abuse or neglect. Parents and guardians can call a 24-hour crisis phone line and children can be accepted for placement any day of the year and at any time. Services range from hourly care to up to 72 hours of care in extreme cases. KPC is the only provider of no-cost emergency and planned respite child care in El Paso County.
