Fundraising in Communities of Color
Our current fundraising climate is changing, becoming more diverse and differently positioned from established donors and donor engagement strategies. This webinar will provide tools for examining current and emerging trends influencing fundraising in communities of color and provide practical strategies to examine how organizations are structured and able to adapt to the current climate. In order to be purposeful and responsive to current opportunities to fundraise in and with communities of color, organizations must examine their institutional readiness to be present in communities in ways differently than they have in the current fundraising plans. This webinar will also provide insights in to where those spaces are in communities and offer some ways to consider accessing those spaces successfully.

Presenter
Ms. Deidra Somerville has more than 25 years of experience as a veteran organizer, strategic planner, advocate, administrator and fundraiser. She has worked in the public and private sector, including the Chicago Urban League, Alternatives, Inc., Chicago Housing Authority, the National Association of Urban Debate Leagues, and currently at Roosevelt University, Chicago. A certified fundraising executive since 2009, Somerville also consults with many organizations in the Chicago Metropolitan area, most recently as a presenter for Forefront, Get In Chicago, and the Axelson Center. She has also worked to expand professional development opportunities for nonprofits serving low-income communities of color as a member of the planning committee of the Breakin It Down Conference, the longest running volunteer run professional development conference for small and emerging nonprofits in the region.
