On Fundraising and Fishing: Reflections on We Raise Foundation
In my day job, I run a community foundation, a charitable organization that encourages people to “give where they live.” I get to work on a daily basis with people who are excited about making the community they call home a better place to live.
I have found that the donors I work with are usually also passionate about one or two causes that are near and dear to their hearts. Other charitable foundations focus on one or two issues and commit their resources to tackling these problems. I enjoy serving on the board of We Raise Foundation because of our commitment to some important issues: poverty, violence, inequality, creating education and work opportunities, and a hand up, not just a hand out to those who need it.
