A Heart for Helping: A Legacy of Faith in Action
Like many, Dr. Don Meier’s first introduction to We Raise Foundation was through Christmas Seals. “I remember as a child the annual Christmas Seals, which were sold widely in Lutheran congregations. My father, being a graduate of Concordia Teacher’s College, made sure we applied them liberally on Christmas cards,” he recalls fondly.
It wasn’t until 1991, however, that Don’s involvement leaped forward. “When Rich Bimler was named president of the organization I became a lot more involved. Rich is the husband of my sister-in-law. I’m sure many We Raise donors have fond memories of Rich and his wife, Hazel.
“I watched Rich work tirelessly to provide seed money grants to more and more organizations and was inspired to support the many worthy programs We Raise funded.”
During his career, Don was a nuclear medicine physician with over 63 years of experience in the medical field. He graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor, Mich., in 1961 and was married to his wife, Marilyn, for 61 years before she passed away in 2020. They raised three sons, Don, Jr., Mark, and Chris.
“Now at the age of 88, I see so many needs for financial support in our great country and church,” said Don, who is remarried to Barbara. “My prayer is that, under the guidance of our gracious Lord, we can provide increasing financial support to expand the great We Raise Foundation mission.”
We are grateful for Don’s unwavering support and dedication to We Raise’s mission. His steadfast partnership and generosity over the years have uplifted and empowered countless organizations and individuals.
