Your Generosity Is Preparing Students Not Just for Graduation, But for Life

Thanks to your support through We Raise Foundation, students at Kingdom Prep Lutheran High School in Milwaukee are gaining more than a strong Christian education—they’re being equipped for future careers through a specialized development program designed to prepare them for life beyond the classroom.

Nehemiah 2.0 is an innovative class that introduces students to real-world career paths in several sectors while laying the foundation for their own future move into homeownership.

Earlier this year, donor gifts enabled We Raise to partner with Siebert Lutheran Foundation to award a $300,000 grant to this remarkable pilot curriculum, a community-based venture envisioned by Kevin Festerling, the school’s founder and principal.

“Nehemiah helped rebuild the walls of Jerusalem,” Festerling says. “He was a leader who left his place of comfort and was guided with a strong trust in God’s purpose. Through Nehemiah 2.0, we seek to show our students that God has His hand on them—a purpose in mind for them that may be beyond what can be measured by a standardized test score.”

Building on its Biblical approach to education, Nehemiah 2.0 is offering career-focused training promoting social responsibility and long-term stability for students. Students will take an integral role in all aspects of helping the school acquire and renovate distressed or vacant residences. Kingdom Prep will then rent or sell the properties to revitalize their community and create a source of funding to help Nehemiah 2.0 become a self-sustaining curriculum offering for years to come.

“Many families in our student community rent their home, making it more difficult for the kids to gain insights into important aspects of homeownership. In our classes, they can gain hands-on experience in areas like carpentry, electrical work, or plumbing, and even real estate management and finance. Students will also benefit from mentorship by local industry professionals as they apply classroom concepts through hands-on experience in home renovation.”

Jayden is one of the students who stands to gain from this unique offering. During his freshman year, he discovered an aptitude for problem-solving, working with tools, and fixing things. He turned his skills into part-time work doing light home repair services for neighbors. Going into his senior year, Jayden can’t wait to apply for acceptance into this unique course offering. If accepted into Nehemiah 2.0, he will gain real-world experience working alongside expert tradesmen to transform a home, from demolition to framing and finishing.

By May 2028, Kingdom Prep aims to successfully engage 75 students in the process of successfully renovating and selling or renting at least three homes in the Milwaukee area. The program will not only prepare these pupils for meaningful careers, it will also instill in them a sense of purpose and a realization about how they can take an active role in bettering their own communities.

Thank you for supporting Jayden’s journey in Nehemiah 2.0. Your generosity is shaping the next generation of servant-leaders through a faith-driven education combined with real-world opportunities.
